2011 Season Outlook: The Falcons are going to finally let Matt Ryan loose and change their offensive scheme from a running based offense to an aerial attack. The team gave up a lot to select Crimson Tide WR Julio Jones with the 6th overall draft selection, but is anxious to line him up opposite All Pro receiver Roddy White. Even with a tough schedule ahead, the Falcons should be in the middle of the playoff picture.
Recap: Head Coach Mike Smith was looking to improve on his 11-5 2008 record but fell just short of that goal as his team finished 2009 with a 9-7 record. The team just missed the playoffs finishing in 2nd place in the NFC South. WR Roddy White was the only Falcon player to make the Pro Bowl.
In 2010, the Falcons need a running back with John Abraham adding another year to his career and Jamaal Anderson turning out to be a bust. The team also needs to focus on a top linebacker. After letting Keith Brookings go to the Dallas Cowboys last season, his replacement, the 33 year old Mike Peterson began showing his age a few games into the season. The team also needs to focus on a #2 receiver to take pressure off of WR Roddy White and TE Tony Gonzalez.
