Synopsis:
Inherit the Wind
Brian Dennehy and Christopher Plummer team up with
Tony-winning director Doug Hughes.
Inherit the Wind dramatizes the 1925 Scopes "monkey
trial" in which a Tennessee science teacher, John
Scopes, was tried and convicted for teaching Darwin's
theory of evolution, violating a Tennessee law that
forbade teaching any theory that conflicted with the
Biblical conception of Divine Creation. This revival
of Inherit the Wind comes after the original 1955
mounting of the play, a 1960 big-screen adaptation
starring Spencer Tracy and Frederic March, and a 1996
revival.
