Recap: The Cincinnati Reds are playing great ball at the midway point of the season. While the NL Central is a tough division, the Reds have managed to keep the Cards, the Brewers and the Cubs at bay with St. Louis only eight games behind.
The Reds have a young gun pitching staff and would like to anchor it for a long while with Branson Arroyo, who falls into an option year next season. When asked if he intended to return, Arroyo said it will be at the full $11 million his option demands. When asked if he would be willing to restructure his contract, Arroyo had plenty to say. "Not in a million years," Arroyo said. "Scott's in a different position than I'm in. He's in a position where he feels like he's only got a couple years left in the game. He wanted to retire in this uniform. It's close to his friends and family. He restructured because he's made $150 million in the game or whatever it is. I'm not in the same boat."
