Recap: Recent play from the big three rookies for the Pirates have given hope where little resides. 3B Pedro Alvarez is now hitting a season high .259 while 2B Neil Walker is sporting a .314 average hitting 14 of his last 24 at bats and outfielder Jose Tabata is 14 for 37 over the past 8 games. "We all have to gather ourselves," he said. "People are watching them grow up in the big leagues right now,” said utility man Delwyn Young.
The team has had to deal with very few injuries this season which, is a bright spot looking forward. "It's not easy. It's not easy to put in the work every day and to lose the game. In the second half, we wanted to push the envelope, relax, have a little fun. But this is on us. It's on us as players. No one else can make that happen for us,” pitcher Brendan Donnelly said recently.
